On this post I have put numbers on each of my pages to indicate the other, not the page number in my magazine. Hope you enjoy!

Official Double-Page Spread

1

3

My spread is of four pages. I chose to do four because thats how many I could not make my story any shorter & still get my point across. I wanted to add details & quotes while still keeping it brief & embedding images through. In order to do this successfully I had to write this much. My favorite part of the spread is my first page. Although not common, sometimes magazines stories have their own cover. I wanted to include mine because I think it would further engage the reader. The image is beautiful and I think because of the walkway it's somewhat symbolic. Its kind of representative of starting a journey, just as the reader is about to start one by reading this story about Carlos, who is also talking about his journey! Funny, right? Again, the font is still consistent with the rest of the magazine keeping it in uniform and the visual aspect is consistent as well with all the colorful images.

Official Table of Contents

There's not much to say about my table of contents. I used the same fonts I did in my cover to keep the magazine going with the same look. The two pictures work well together because of their color & composition but are different angles, adding diversity. I also made the text a little more interesting by bolding the page numbers and using a different font from the rest of the text. It looks more fun & stylistic, in my opinion. Because the colors in the images are so vibrant I decided to use basic colors for the background and text so that the page is not overwhelming.

Official Title Page

After many modifications and many doubts, my project is finally done. I will submit my magazine by presenting each aspect one by one, accompanied with an explanation, & finally all together as if you were flipping through it :)

First, of course, is my title page:

I might have redone my cover a good 4 times. After having thought I was done after every time, when I moved on to the other parts of my magazine I'd find it hard to have a flow, but finally I came to this one. It's the first picture I chose (always stick to your gut!). At first I wanted to place this picture on either one of the thirds because it draws the viewer's eye but I consciously put it in the middle because I think it looks much more organized with the layout & the picture itself just calls more attention with the subject in the middle. I figured the breathtaking picture itself would be enough to capture an audience.

The title and cover lines contrast the image but still match with the white foam of the waves. I did this to keep that organization & make it easy & clear to read. My cover lines are short & brief yet enticing  and obviously, pertaining to the main story, which is my two page spread. The font is easy to follow and clean.

Reflection

After any big project, whether it's in school or life in general, should come a reflection. It's important to look back on what you did well and what you didn't in order for there to be room for improvement. What's the point of it all if we don't learn from our mistakes?
After these couple weeks, I found that time management is the biggest of my issues. Despite my schedule and good planning, I failed to execute the steps on time and found myself doing everything last minute. This is definitely something I need to work on because having managed my time better I would have avoided a LOT of unnecessary stress. I also think that my technological skills need some improvement, because truly I'm pretty rusty.
Apart from that I think I did pretty well. I'm happy with the topic I chose because it's something that I'm passionate about and enjoyed.
Overall, I think this project was a positive and fun learning experience and I look forward to doing more like them in the future.

CCR PREP

For the past 24+ hours I'I've been on and off of flights so i have not been able to blog, but right now I will quickly share my "script" to my CCR. I put script in quotation marks because it's not really a script per say, just an outline of what I'll be saying. It'/ the following:

Ccr
How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
Social issues: It's important to be exposed to different cultures and sceneries. I think today's big problem in accepting others is that many people don't take the time to put themselves in other's shoes. Many of today's issues could be tackled by just being INFORMED of other places, other lifestyles, and other cultures. These are beautiful aspects of life that should be embraced rather than limited, which is what I'm trying to do with this magazine. My idea is to encourage people to get out of their comfort zone and explore something new. Not only is it a fun experience, but it's always enriching to see how others get by and how and why their customs differ from our own. I know many people who aren't driven to travel. It's not that they don't want to, they'd just rather stay in the "comfort" of their home, their food, and their people. I want to challenge this. As I mentioned in my blog, one of my main focuses is to make this blog less word-y and more pic-y. I am trying to target a younger audience than travel ,magazines usually do. These ,magazine normally are directed to medium-high class people who can afford trips. I would like to influence a younger group of people so that they are driven to see the world and get out there.

How does your project engage with audience and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
My product will include insane trips as well as accessible ones. It includes features of all kinds of people, therefore engaging all kinds of people. These magazines already have an older people reader base but I will build he younger one through the visuals. Nowadays, art is coming back in as a part of the hipster trend, and visually appealing products is what it's all about, that's how I'll engage my younger audience. Also, since nowadays everything is through technology, my project's main distribution will be through apps and the internet. Again, referring back to the hipster trend, this choice is ecofriendly, something the hipsters support. Instead of wasting SO much of our distribution through print, only a small portion directed to the older audience will be printed.
